Mastering notes:
EQ to remove a bit of the muddiness, Izotope Music Rebalance to boost vocals slightly, I think my seats were slightly too close to pick up vocals as well as I’d liked. Boosted the acoustic section a bit to reduce the level discrepancy somewhat between that and the rest of the show.

Longest show of the tour so far, CH debut of “Vampire Blues” and first “Sedan Delivery” in a decade. Second encore was unplanned and a very nice surprise. Long live the Horse.

Nick Lowe: vocals bass
Paul Carrack: vocals keyboards
Martin Belmont: guitar
Bobby Irwin: drums

Remix notes:

The source had instruments and vocals panned almost entirely to one side, like an early Beatles stereo recording. Extracted tracks via DeMix Pro & mixed in Logic Pro. Not much bass on the master tape, unfortunately, but did the best I could do.

Remaster notes:

This comes from a leaked in-house video, so the ‘low-gen SBD’ vague notes of the source are a bit misleading. Demuxed using DeMix Pro, remixed to give the drums a bit more presence, try to find at least a little of Howie’s bass when I could, and give the rest a slight stereo image to open things up. Used Ozone Spectral De-Noise to remove quite a bit of unpleasant noise throughout the tape, unfortunately there are no other known sources to patch the occasional moments of static that crop up now and then. Mastering done via Izotope Ozone.

This was an already (surprisingly) good sounding recording, just tried to give a bit more depth and instrument definition to the show, as it’s probably the best sounding thing we’ll ever get from the Talk tour as long as Steve Howe is still alive.

Original release notes:

This is a new weed for the 6/19/1994 Canandaguia, NY Talk show, distributed as SHN. Most of the show origniates from the famous “Endless Dream” silver CD boot, and those parts have been left un-altered (though they have been put back in the original order). It sounded great already, with only a little bit of static from the Concertsonics recordings.

However, it was incomplete. The first seven minutes or so of this show were missing from the “Endless Dream” boot, and also some of the intros to some of the other songs were cut as well. I don’t know if they were left off for time considerations, or perhaps static in the original recording, or whatever.

However, thanks to a fellow Yesswapper, David D, I’ve been able to find an alternate concertsonics recording of this show, and have patched all the missing pieces. The alternate recording patches needed to be speed and piched adjusted to match the rest of the show. The left and right channels were also evened out.

Lineage, most of show: Silver CD > EAC (secure) > SHN
patches : 2nd gen concertsonics > CD > EAC (secure) > Goldwave > Wavelab 4.0 >SHN

Remastered by Mr. Sifter, February 2024.

This was a pretty rough tape, definitely a 2nd or 3rd gen copy of the original SBD, almost not worth working with but for the inclusion of the rarely played "Jig Is Up." Unfortunately to get any real detail out of this tape meant introducing some of the kind of prickly treble that is often unappetizing, so it's a bit of a lesser of two evils choice for this show. On the other hand, the SBD recording itself is very well recorded, a nice balance of both guitars, hopefully a lower gen tape will surface one day.

Remaster notes:

A VERY clean (digital?) soundboard from 1988. Unfortunately along with that crispness came a frustrating lack of bass. "And Justice For All" had come out mere weeks before...coincidence? Isolated Tom's bass as much as possible via DeMix Pro, separated the vocal track to get a better balance, but left the rest alone. Boosted the overall low end in mastering to help boost Tom's presence and compensate for the thinness of the original sources as well, and attempted to minimize an annoying high frequency in the high hat a bit.

The overproduced Permanent Vacation tracks like "Dude" and "Rag Doll" that have a lot of processed drums and tracks/keyboard samples don't fare as well, they're much more blatant in this mix than presumably were in the house that night, but overall this is still a solid document of their early MTV era.

So, who knows if the story below that came with the original distribution is true, but there’s so little unreleased Rush studio material out there that this tape seemed worth the time to work on and see what could be done. The quality and sonics varied from track to track, and overall it (understandably) bears all the hallmarks of a 2nd or 3rd gen dub or poor quality cassettes/decks used in making this source tape.

Don’t expect miracles, but I have tried to draw a bit more detail and depth out of what was on the cassettes, as always it may or may not be to a listener’s particular tastes. I reduced some of the tape noise, rebalanced the sound to bring Geddy’s vocals out a bit more, and did some overall EQ.

Power Windows Demo Tape
Original Version (No Noise Reduction)
UltimoGuitarist’s cassette tape of the Power Windows Demos
Encoded with Tag&Rename

“Alright guys. I think i’ve stumbled across a rare gem that no one out there has or has heard.

Our drummer showed played me a cassette tape of Power Windows in its entirety before it was even taken to the recording studio. That’s right, sort of like a pre power windows personal recording of Alex’s.

Now, he says that he’s probably the only one who has it, and here’s why.

Apparently a friend of his was walking downtown in Toronto, and Alex Lifeson’s son had this tape, and was shouting out, “listen to my dads new album power windows!!” etc. And this friend of my drummers was given the tape by lifesons son, and then gave it to our drummer since he knew he was a hardcore Rush fan.

So now our drummer has this tape, and he’s certain that no one else has it, so I wanted to check in with you guys to see if anyone else out there has it, and whether or not its worth it to make it public.

For the record, he played the tape for me, and I listened to manhattan project, and he wasnt lying. Completely different arrangements and a nice home made sound to recording. It’s like sitting in the house with them while they jam. Quite amazing.

So he’s going to back it up to CD, and give me a copy, and i’ll make it public for you all to hear if this is something that no one knows of. So let me know.

This isnt one of those lame threads of someone just making up BS for something to do. I wouldn’t yank your chains. This thing is real, and im willing to share it with you guys if you wanna hear it. I’m gonna stay on him and make sure he puts it to CD for me.”
