Remastered by Mr. Sifter, November 2024. An amazing recording but with some major volume/channel fluctuations, addressed these individually by mixing the other channel in, it’s still noticeable when it switches to mostly mono for short passages, but it’s much less distracting than it was previously. Leveled out and did some minor mastering work to bring it more in line with a commercial release. A great listen.

“Get Out of Denver” (Mr. Sifter Remix & Remaster)

July 8th, 1974

Source: Pre-FM -> ?? -> FLAC -> DemixPro 5 -> Logic Pro. Remixed & Remastered by Mr. Sifter, Dec. 2023.

The original source is supposedly the original reel-to-reel used for the broadcast, so tackling this one was more a task of stereo positioning and some minor EQ. The original tape had guitars hard right and keys hard left, this may be preferable to hear the individual players but awkward to listen to on headphones. I wanted it to have more of an “in the room” feel like a good live recording should, so while the guitars and keys are still spread, it’s a narrower spread that hopefully is closer to what the room may have sounded like, especially given the venue’s small size (apparently less than 250 capacity).

2024 notes:

Stems via DeMix Pro, remixed via Logic Pro, mastered via Izotope Ozone & AbbeyRoad TG Mastering. Finally, a stereo version of this show, albeit via digital means. Not for the purists, and certainly not definitive, but an alternate presentation of this excellent early Heartbreakers gig.

Remixed & remastered by Mr. Sifter, Jan. 2024 using Demix Pro, Logic Pro & Izotope Ozone 11.

A great pre-Warner Bros. Van Halen show, full of early versions of several classics (Dave is still trying to decide what the lyrics of “Runnin’ With the Devil” are going to be), a few songs that would soon be replaced by newer compositions, and a couple of choice covers. Of course, this one wasn’t going to win any audiophile awards, but I corrected the hard panning of the original tape to hopefully more accurately represent the live sound in the room, and just tried to clean things up a bit. Turn it up and enjoy.
